Grays Are Out! Here Are Paint Color Trends We’re Seeing For 2022

Whether you’re finally moving forward with a custom home build, are planning an upcoming remodel, or are simply looking for an easy way to update an outdated interior, you’ll be moving forward with paint selections. While home trends are worth noting, especially if you plan to sell your home in the near future, it’s also important that you paint your living spaces with colors that speak to you.

While grays are decidedly on their way out, other hues are moving into their vacant slot. We’ve consulted all of the experts, as well as our in-house designers, to come up with this list of the paint color trends we notice while heading into 2022.

Paint Your DeLand Home With These Trending Paint Colors

It’s no surprise that colors is the keyword here. We’ve spent quite a bit of time in homes painted in neutral shades of browns and grays. But, as some of us continue in the “Live-Work-Play From Home” lifestyle, it’s no surprise that varied rainbow hues are coming back into focus, adding cheer and ambiance to our living spaces.

Unlike the jewel tones that accented the pages of home decor magazines through the 90s and early 2000s, today’s trending paint colors strike a beautiful balance of energized while remaining soothing on the eyes and easy to work with using existing home furnishings.

Verdant Greens

Green hues are known for their soothing properties and are also associated with harmony, joy, and renewed life. Looking for a way to bring the essence of Mother Nature into your home? You’ll appreciate the various shades of green available from major paint manufacturers.

One of the largest of these, PPG, announced “Olive Sprig” as its 2022 Color of the Year. While not quite as brown as the ‘olive green’ you may think of, this shade is more reminiscent of aloe vera plants or new shoots that emerge on an old-growth tree. According to PPG, Olive Sprig “…can help create a sanctuary in a bedroom, or pairs beautifully with brass accents and wood tones on an island or lower kitchen cabinets.”

Other shades of green we enjoy include:

Soothing Blues

Benjamin-Moore’s Aegean Teal, which blends green with gray and blue, is the perfect segue to the blues. Soothing blue shades are included in all the major players’ 2022 color trend palettes, and there’s a little something for any DeLand homeowner looking to add calming, tranquil, and serenity to their interior spaces.

Farrow and Ball’s “Stone Blue” is on the richer side of the blue spectrum, which works both as the sole color on multiple walls or as an accent on a single wall or for door/window trim.

Other 2022 Blues to consider are:

Rustic & Rosier Hues

Remember when we all worked so hard to find that “just-right red” for our dining rooms? This year, we’re seeing a new, earthier version of the rosier palette spectrum. They’re not quite red and not quite pink.

The Sherwin-Williams version of this is called “Sierra Redwood,” You can see how it provides a warm, energizing hue while still maintaining an earthy and grounded energy. Red is typically known as a high-energy “power color,” but when it is muted by grey or brown earth tones, these versions of red have more of a relaxing and warming effect.

If that one isn’t quite right, you may prefer:

Earthy Yellows

Similarly, bright and sunshine yellows are out while earthy, and mustard shades are in. Yellows are associated with energy and cheer, and color psychology proves that the ride shades of yellow, used in balance, stimulate the left side of the brain to promote logical thinking. That said, too much yellow can be overwhelming and abrasive, so use it with care.

When Farrow and Ball announced their Top 5 color trends for 2022, “Babouche” made the list. F&B writes, “Babouche takes its name from the distinctive color of the leather slippers worn by men in Morocco. It has a cheerful brightness.”

You can also enjoy yellow accents with:

White: A Home Trends Staple

Finally, we’ll conclude with a home trends staple: white. When in doubt, white is the blank canvas background that works for any decor. That said, there is something to be said for choosing the right “shade” of white, and it all comes down to undertones. For example, cool whites have blue undertones, while warm whites have a yellow/cream undertone.

For example, Benjamin-Moore has two whites they’re promoting for 2022. The first is a cool white called “Foggy Morning,” and the second is a warmer white called “Atrium.”

Other whites to analyze are:
